About me

Hello! My name is Niklas Götz and I am a PhD student in Theoretical Physics at the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies (FIAS) in the group of Prof. Hannah Elfner. Previously, I graduated from ETH Zürich and École Polytechnique Paris with a joint Masters' in High Energy Physics. I grew up in the small town of Bad Kissingen in Franconia/Northern Bavaria, Germany. Before my Masters', I graduated with a Bachelors' degree in Mathematical Physics from Julius-Maximilians University Würzburg, Germany.

My Master thesis was centered around the topic of the application of Machine Learning (ML) on Monte Carlo integration for matrix elements. My current field of interst in physics is the study of the quark-gluon-plasma in intermediate and high energy heavy ion collisions. This state of matter is not just generated in collider experiments, but also made up the early universe. I aim to extract a better understanding of this state of matter by simulating it in complex numerical models, and comparing the results with experimental data. On this website, you can find more information about my research.

My research is often very computational, since I am passionate about coding, data science and machine learning. I enjoy using state of the art algorithms and high performance computing to extract knowledge both for research and pratical usecases. I have also worked as a software developer for various companies. Some of my projects (including autodidactical projects and preliminary studies) created outside of industry can be found on my github profile.
