I am a member of the Scientists for Future (S4F) Frankfurt. S4F is an NGO which support global climate movement by providing facts and materials based on reliable and accepted scientific data to activists, politicians, decision makers, educators and the general public. It is an independent and voluntary collective of scientists, researchers and academics from all kinds of disciplines, united by our deep concern for our shared future. Our self-organizing grassroots movement is informed by scientific evidence and motivated by our human conscience.
As part of the S4F, I talk part in consultations, public debates and talks, where I present the perspective of scientific consensus based on empirical data. Additonally, I support our social media time by collecting research results, which I summarise and rephrase for a wide audience.
In 2022, I gave an outreach talk directed to the general public (in German). The talk was given to graduate students from many different disciplines. I stress the differences between nuclear physics and nuclear engineering, and outline the motivations and methods behind high energy nuclear physics, as well as certain aspects of my own reasearch. Check out the slides to get an idea about my work!
In 2022, I started together with other PhD students from FIAS, the Frankfurt Institute for Adavanced Studies, the Instagram channel "FIAS students". We present in a fun and entertaining way the life and research of the PhD students at our institute. The research performed there is usually interdisciplinary and focused on computation, so you get to know a lot of young researchers from different disciplines using a huge variety of methods. Our aim is to make the contributions of early career researchers, who often do the majority of work towards new discovieres, more visible and relatable. For both the general public and undergraduate students, it is hard to imagine what the life of actual researchers looks like, and media does its part to display it in a sensationalist, exaggerated way. Instead, we aim at showing the humans behind the research, as they are often the most important factor behind the advance of science.
Already my studies, I have continously participated in multiple outreach activities. I was the head of the regional section of the jDPG, the students' group of the German Physics Association. As such, I organised multiple events targeted on high school students, freshers and the general public, in order to spread knowledge and inspire interest about current research topics. Amongst these events were "Meet the Prof", guided tours through the labs and Science Slams, often also in cooperation with the local Chemistry department.
Apart from this, I was also part of the editorial board of the "DETEKTOR" magazine, which was an online magazine by high school students for high school students centred around physics. As an editor, I assisted the writers in their research for sources, understanding complex physical concepts and writing well-readable texts.
